The profession

The job, day to day

A home, a shop, an office or a hotel is judged first by its interior. The interior designer imagines how a space is laid out: movement, light, colours, furniture and materials. The designer turns ideas into plans and images, prices the project with the client and follows it through with the tradespeople.

The course teaches you to draw: plans, sections and perspectives, first by hand and then on computer, with drawing and 3D modelling software. You study the rules of layout and ergonomics, colour, lighting, materials and furniture. Finally, you learn to present a project, prepare a simple quote and supervise finishing works on site.

Through the projects you complete during the year, you build a portfolio. You leave ready to work in an architecture firm, an interior design agency, for a furniture maker or on your own account.
