The profession

The job, day to day

In a small or medium-sized business, the same person often handles both secretarial work and day-to-day bookkeeping. The accounts secretary welcomes visitors, drafts and files documents, but also records invoices, monitors cash and bank accounts, prepares simple payrolls and routine returns. This dual skill set makes the role valuable and versatile.

The course teaches you secretarial techniques and office software, then general accounting under the system in force in the OHADA zone: supporting documents, journals, the general ledger, the trial balance and bank reconciliation. You also learn invoicing, customer and supplier follow-up, the basics of payroll and how to use accounting software.

Case studies follow the accounts of a real business over a full year. You leave able to run the secretarial and day-to-day accounting of an organisation, and to assist an accountant or an accounting firm.
