The profession

The job, day to day

In our climate, cooling offices and homes and preserving food and medicines all depend on the refrigeration technician. The technician installs air conditioners and refrigeration equipment, commissions, maintains and repairs them. Hotels, shops, supermarkets, hospitals and households call on these skills all year round.

The course starts with the principles of refrigeration and how a refrigeration circuit works. You then learn electricity applied to cooling systems, reading diagrams, working with copper pipe (bending, flaring, brazing), then installing a split air conditioner. You learn to pull a vacuum, charge refrigerant, measure pressures and diagnose faults, in line with safety and environmental rules.

You leave able to install, maintain and repair common air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, in a company or on your own account.
