The profession

The job, day to day

Gates, security grilles, staircases, railings, light frames, tanks and vessels: all of these are the work of the metalworker and boilermaker. From a drawing or measurements taken at the client's premises, the metalworker marks out, cuts, bends and welds the metal, then assembles and installs the piece. It is a trade of precision and strength, highly sought after in construction and industry.

The course teaches you to read a drawing and mark out metal, then to use workshop tools: saw, grinder, drill, shears and press brake. You learn the most common welding processes, assembly and checking of parts, then finishing and rust protection. Workshop safety is taught from the very first day.

You leave able to fabricate and install everyday metal structures, in the workshop or on site, and with experience to set up on your own.
