The profession

The job, day to day

In a pharmacy, the technician is often the patient's first point of contact. The technician reads the prescription, prepares and dispenses medicines under the pharmacist's supervision, explains the dosage and answers simple questions. Behind the counter, the technician receives orders, stores stock, checks expiry dates and makes sure nothing runs out.

The course introduces you to medicines: their families, forms, uses and precautions. You learn to read a prescription, spot an error or an interaction, and refer to the pharmacist whatever lies outside your role. You also learn stock management, storage rules and how to welcome customers who are sometimes anxious.

A placement in a pharmacy puts you behind the counter, facing real situations. You leave able to work in a retail pharmacy, a pharmaceutical depot or the pharmacy of a health facility.
