The job, day to day
Behind every diagnosis there is an analysis. The medical laboratory technician welcomes the patient for the sample, prepares the blood, urine or stool specimens, then runs the tests ordered by the doctor: blood counts, blood sugar, parasite screening and serological tests. The work demands rigour, because the quality of care depends on the accuracy of each result.
The course follows the path of a sample, from collection to the final report. You learn the basics of human biology, then the techniques of haematology, biochemistry, parasitology and bacteriology. You handle laboratory equipment, learn to calibrate and maintain it, and apply the safety rules that protect both patient and operator.
A laboratory placement brings you into contact with real analyses and the pace of a working department. You leave able to work in a medical laboratory, a health centre or a hospital, and to take your place within the team.
